1. French 75
This cocktail´ s name comes from the 75 mm Howitzer gun that was used by the French during World War I, because the original recipe provided the same blow as the artillery piece.
According to the story, the creation of the French 75 is a combination between the tastes of the French and the Americans. When France’s air squadrons returned safely from an excursion they used to toast with champagne. However, the American allies did not like it, as they were used to stronger drinks. Hence the need for mixing champagne with Gin.
The French 75 is quite simple to prepare without detracting from its elegance. Here its preparation:
- 2 ounces of gin seca.
- 1 teaspoon of fine sugar.
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice.
- 5 ounces Champagne.
- Mix in a shaker and serve on ice in a tall glass.
